A desert safari is a guided experience in the Arabian desert that combines adventure, culture, and entertainment. It usually includes activities such as dune bashing, camel riding, sandboarding, live performances, and a traditional BBQ dinner at a desert camp.
Desert safaris are offered in several formats, including morning safaris, evening safaris, overnight safaris, private safaris, and VIP or luxury safaris. Each option varies in duration, comfort, and included experiences.
Yes. A refundable security deposit is required and can be blocked on your credit card or taken in cash. The amount depends on the car category and is released within 2 weeks after the vehicle is returned, as per RTA and bank regulation.
A standard desert safari typically includes hotel pickup and drop-off, dune bashing in a 4×4 vehicle, sandboarding, a short camel ride, a sunset photo stop, access to a desert camp, a BBQ dinner with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, live entertainment shows, and unlimited soft drinks, water, tea, and coffee.
An evening desert safari usually lasts between six and seven hours, including transfers. Morning safaris are shorter and take around three to four hours, while overnight safaris continue until the following morning.
Dune bashing is generally safe and is conducted by trained and licensed drivers using well-maintained four-wheel-drive vehicles. Safety precautions are followed at all times, although the activity can be intense for some guests.
Dune bashing is not recommended for pregnant women, infants, or guests with serious back, neck, or heart conditions. Guests who prefer to skip dune bashing can still participate in the rest of the safari experience.
Comfortable, lightweight clothing is recommended. Closed shoes or sandals work best for walking on sand, and sunglasses and sunscreen are advised during daytime hours. In cooler months, bringing a light jacket for the evening is recommended.
Desert safaris are generally suitable for families and children. However, very young children may be advised to skip dune bashing. Families often prefer private safaris for added flexibility and comfort.
Vegetarian meal options are usually available at desert camps. Guests with special dietary requirements are encouraged to inform the tour operator in advance.
Soft drinks are typically included in the package. Alcoholic beverages and shisha are usually available at the camp for an additional charge, depending on the selected package.
Private and VIP desert safaris are available and offer a more exclusive experience. These packages often include private transportation, premium seating, personalized service, and enhanced comfort at the camp.
Pickup for evening desert safaris usually takes place between mid-afternoon and late afternoon, depending on the guest’s location and the time of year. Exact pickup details are confirmed after booking.
Photography is allowed and encouraged throughout the desert safari. The desert landscape and sunset views are ideal for photos. Professional photography services may also be available at the camp for an additional cost.
Most desert camps provide clean restroom facilities for guests. VIP and premium camps usually offer upgraded washrooms.
Desert safaris operate in most weather conditions. In rare cases of extreme weather, the safari may be rescheduled or canceled, with alternative arrangements offered according to the operator’s policy.
Advance booking is recommended, especially during peak tourist seasons and weekends, to ensure availability and preferred seating.
